Resources

Here are some cool resources that I've found helpful as a parent toilet training a child.  I've learned that I like governmental and other non-profit references better than the big commercial sites.

One note: As a parent of a child who was premature and low birthweight, I ignore many of the statistics on these pages, or I'll go crazy.  You may want to do the same if your child has any special circumstances or needs.
  • The University of Michigan has extensive, interesting information on potty training.
  • The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has an awesome page on toilet training readiness.
  • I also liked the University of Missouri's Extension page on toilet training.  The page takes a long time to load, though, so I hope it works for you.  Though it's a little short on troubleshooting information, it does have some good suggestions for introducing the child to the potty.
  • Utah State University has a really awesome essay on toilet training that offers concrete ideas for potty training scenarios - what the parent might do in such-and-such a situation. It's pretty eye-opening. It also covers bedwetting and older children.
  • MedLine Plus has extensive information on bedwetting.
  • Find more basic potty training tips at the University of Alabama.
  • And I love, love, love the Berkeley Parents forums, where there's a whole page with threads on potty training at night.
